Over the years, the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (EAYNT) has become increasingly involved in the activities of the ENS. The scope of this participation, and the intentions of the Association, are sketched below in a report written by Dr. Johann Sellner and Dr. Laszlo Sztriha of the EAYNT.
‘The European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (www.eaynt.org) is an independent European non-profit organisation aimed at representing young colleagues’ interests within major professional organisations. In addition, it promotes clinical and scientific excellence of its members. The EAYNT believes that discussion of personal scientific work at the European conference level is an important component in the education of a 21st century neurologist, and that poster presentations are ideal opportunities to meet this specification.
One major step in this direction took place in 2009. With the support of the ENS Executive Committee, nomination of EAYNT colleagues as chairs for poster walks at the ENS meeting in Milan was established. The intention of this proposal was to reward poster presenters with intense scientific discussion during the poster walks, as well as to create a platform to acknowledge their work. Moreover, the Association intends to offer scientifically active young colleagues the possibility to take responsibility within the context of an international conference. Following a call placed on our homepage, combined with a selection procedure based on scientific criteria, the EAYNT was able to nominate young colleagues from six European countries as chairs for poster walks. Based on positive feedback from the poster presenters, our chairs, and the ENS Executive Committee, the EAYNT will again have the opportunity to nominate candidates as chairs for poster walks. Hence, extensive discussion at the posters can be expected at the ENS 2010 meeting in Berlin.
Self-nominations are welcome, as well as suggestions to nominate young colleagues beyond the age of 35 by department heads. To apply, please send a one-page CV containing a list of five PubMed referenced papers as first- or co-author - along with your field of expertise - to laszlo.sztriha@kcl.ac.uk. The deadline for submission is 15 March 2010. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.
Nota bene: The deadline for abstract submission to the 20th ENS Meeting in Berlin, 19-23 June 2010, is 3 February 2010; refer above to topic ‘I. Abstract Submission Deadline for the 20th ENS Meeting: 3 February 2010’. So, act now if you want your abstract to be presented as a poster or even oral at the Berlin meeting.
Johann Sellner, EAYNT (Munich, Germany) and Laszlo Sztriha, EAYNT (London, UK).’

During the recent ENS Executive Committee Meeting, which took place in December 2009, in Paris, it was decided to establish an auxiliary Advisory Board. This Board will include all previous members of the Executive Committee interested in participating in its activities. The Advisory Board can be called upon to deal with various matters crucial to the Society, such as reviewing abstracts or giving advice on issues of which Board members have experience, e.g. dealing with the AAN. Moreover, candidates for president of the ENS can be nominated by this Advisory Board, in addition to candidates proposed by the Executive Committee. This Board will thus serve to maintain a close working relationship between the ENS Executive Committee and its former members.
Members of the ENS interested in obtaining more information on the Advisory Board can contact Julia Bicher of the ENS Secretariat at: (julia.bicher@congrex.com).
