IV. Interactive Case Presentations at the Twentieth Meeting of the ENS in Berlin, 19-23 June 2010

One of the concerns of the ENS is the active involvement of participants in the conduct of various sessions of its meetings. The Interactive Case Presentations, which will take place on Saturday, 19 June 2010, from 09.00-10.30, is an example of how participants in sessions can interact via an electronic voting system. Moreover, participants have the opportunity to present an interesting case of diagnostic or scientific interest. These sessions are conducted free of charge. If you wish to present a personal case at one of theses sessions, please send the case by email to (info@ensinfo.org). The ENS Administrative Secretariat will put you in contact with the chairperson.

Titles of the sessions, names of the chairpersons, are given below.

V. EAYNT Encourages Young Neurologists to Apply for a Poster-Round Co-Chair

Over the years, the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (EAYNT) has become increasingly involved in the activities of the ENS. The scope of this participation, and the intentions of the Association, are sketched below in a report written by Dr. Johann Sellner and Dr. Laszlo Sztriha of the EAYNT.

‘The European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (www.eaynt.org) is an independent European non-profit organisation aimed at representing young colleagues’ interests within major professional organisations. In addition, it promotes clinical and scientific excellence of its members. The EAYNT believes that discussion of personal scientific work at the European conference level is an important component in the education of a 21st century neurologist, and that poster presentations are ideal opportunities to meet this specification.

One major step in this direction took place in 2009. With the support of the ENS Executive Committee, nomination of EAYNT colleagues as co-chairs for poster sessions at the ENS meeting in Milan was established. The intention of this
proposal was to reward poster presenters with intense scientific discussion during the poster rounds, as well as to create a platform to acknowledge their work. Moreover, the Association intends to offer scientifically active young colleagues the possibility to take responsibility within the context of an international conference. Following a call placed on our homepage, combined with a selection procedure based on scientific criteria, the EAYNT was able to nominate young colleagues from six European countries as co-chairs for poster sessions. Based on positive feedback from the poster presenters, our co-chairs, and the ENS Executive Committee, the EAYNT will again have the opportunity to nominate candidates as co-chairs for poster sessions. Hence, extensive discussion at the posters can be expected at the ENS 2010 meeting in Berlin.

Self-nominations are welcome, as well as suggestions to nominate young colleagues beyond the age of 35 by department heads. To apply, please send a one-page CV containing a list of five PubMed referenced papers as first- or co-author - along with your field of expertise - to laszlo.sztriha@kcl.ac.uk. The deadline for submission is 15 March 2010. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Johann Sellner, EAYNT (Munich, Germany) and Laszlo Sztriha, EAYNT (London, UK).’

VII. Joint Task Force Meeting of EFNS and ENS in Paris

The first Joint Task Force Meeting of the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS) and the European Neurological Society (ENS) took place in Paris in January 2010. Goal of the meeting was to discuss the combining of interests in the future. More information on this collaboration will reported in the next editions of this newsletter.

Joint Task Force Meeting of EFNS and ENS in Paris

This first Task Force Meeting is a result of the agreement of cooperation made between representatives of the EFNS and the ENS at a meeting which took place during the 13th Congress of the EFNS in Florence, Italy, 12-15 September, 2009, refer to the December 2009 edition of the Journal of Neurology; Communications of the European Neurological Society, VI. Meeting on Cooperation between the EFNS and ENS in Florence, J Neuro (2009) 256: 2118-2119.
